In order to be able to make a statement about the behaviour of cables in a vertically suspended energy chain, igus® GmbH from Cologne investigated the facts in its in-house test laboratory. To this end, four chainflex® cables were tested for 10 days in a series-E4 energy chain with a (different) travel distance of 5 metres. After the test and 222,776 completed test cycles, no appreciable wear on the cables was found. On the basis of this test, the following statements can be made:

The cables must be fully installed in the right way so that they do not become stuck in curves or become tangled with each other

There should be two strain relief elements with a maximum of two cables per clamp (CFXL) in order to prevent the cables from shifting out of place

The use of cables with a TPE outer jacket is recommended.
